Hello all, can anyone let me know the title of the book written, I believe, by Miles Horndean of his account of sailing his Twister to New Zealand via Cape Horn. Last week I was anchored in the Scillies and was invited for a glass of wine onto  a Nauticat 42, the owners had met Miles in Patagonla years before and were mentioned in his book . I would love to have another read, regards Simon

The book is Sailing the Pacific by Miles Hordern. An account of sailing from New Zealand to Chile and back (not around the Horn). He also wrote Passage to Torres Strait, also recommended. His photo of the galley/chart area shows the same layout as my Twister and they are the same age. I like to think they were built together 🙂

Any idea if Sailing the Pacific is the same as Voyaging the Pacific: In Search of the South? The latter is a lot easier to find in the UK so I thought the former may be the US edition? Thanks.

You are right, it was originally published as Voyaging the Pacific in 2002.

It is a good read, if not so much about actually sailing, more of travelling. I did enjoy it, for the sense and feeling with a trip of this kind… I bought mine through Amazon, but it was second hand from Denver Library. It strikes me it might be hard to much further from the sea in a library in Denver.

Also worth reading is “The Way to Cape Horn” by Trevor David Clifton (of theses very Parishes). That is a straight forwards account about sailing a Twister to Cape Horn and back. I keep both in my Ships Library 🙂

Peter.

I am in the middle of re-reading “The Way to Cape Horn” by Trevor David Clifton.

A very enjoyable read.

I would second John’s comments on The Way to Cape Horn which reads as an honest and interesting record of his voyage
