Spindrift rapidly going backwards on the renovation.
Most fittings had failed where bonded to the deck ,so decided to strip everything off but this gives me clear access to removing old deck paint ,yet to work out how I am going to do this!
Here are some photos that may be of interest.
Note stainless steel L plate that was under the capping ,also bolted through the Hull.
The jib track was fastened with self tapping machine screws into this

Oh My .... You have been busy and now it looks even worse than before you started!
We've been down this road too, especially in discovering that every planned job leads to at least 2 others. I wish you well. West System Epoxy and Sikaflex used carefully are wonderful companions. You may also be interested to note that virtually all fastenings (by Uphams) were just tapped into the GRP. The most heavily loaded items are the Genoa track fastenings. We moved ours slightly and started from scratch. 30 years on they are very well tested and still holding fast.
If you go to the magazine archive and search 'Toerail' you'll find an item from May '94 describing what we did in some detail which may be helpful. The epoxy glued scarf joints have held despites the naysayers saying that teak was not glueable. Also epoxying the underside of the section has prevented wet migration up through the wood to blow the varnish off. We have still never stripped them back to bare wood, thanks to the loving attention of the chief varnisher.
Enjoy your refitting, it will be worth it!
