Hello Everyone and Greetings from Co Donegal Ireland
I bought my Twister in 2015 from the family of the previous owner so sadly passed away in 2014
Since I bought Ahimsa I have had to change the engine as the Bukh DV 10 was in very poor shape, this year I am hoping to return the vessel to the water and do some sailing around the North Coast. I think my Twister was bought in Essex in 2013 and if anyone has any information on her history including previous names I would be delighted to find out. Ahimsa was previously called Wood Magic, but I think that name may have been changed in the past. Also curious to know if there are any other Twister Owners in Ireland.
Regards
Derek
Hi Derek,
'Welcome Aboard'. As ex-Secretary of the Association here's what I have on Wood Magic:
Built in 1973 by Uphams of Brixham as Wood Magic for a Mr Gane.
Subsequent owners included Colling (1984), Pool (1998) and lastly Ben Measures.
I think she spent a fair bit of her life on the East Coast. Pool kept her in Dover.
Her original issued sail number was 2132Y but I also had '15' on record.
She was rigged as a cutter in 1999.
So there you have it. The name was original. I don't know by what ownership route she found her way to Co. Donegal though.
I hope Peter Mulville, the current Secretary will be able to fill you in on the boats that are in Ireland, there are a number.
Very best wishes for getting afloat. I'm sure you'll find that any questions you may have will get answered here!
John

Hi John and Stephen,
Many thanks for your replies, John am impressed, that's amazing I have some history on the my twister now. Interesting that she was cutter rigged as she is sloop rigged again.
This season and this whole project is a real learning experience, as I have come from the powerboat side of things and my sailing experience is relatively limited so everyday is a learning day.
Stephen the engine change was interesting, I done some of the work myself and the yard here in Donegal redone the engine beds, as they needed slight adjustment for new engine, and done the heavy lifting. I still have a lot of work to do including redoing the cap rail and this was damaged previously, but my main aim is to get sailing this year and do more work next winter.
This website is a great resource for twister owners and the posts and news letters are hugely helpful, I will let you all know when I eventually get Ahimsa back in water, which I hope will be mid April.
