Hello All,
I have recently joined the Twister association. After looking long and hard at different boats I decided A twister appealed to me in terms of its looks and its reputation. Then using my heart instead of my head, I purchased Aeolis, well she is not in pristine condition in any way. The Deck fittings are all removed, no engine, and some work to do in the wooden cockpit, That said its all there with a reasonable set of sails. Currently ashore at Baltic wharf under repair.
Very little history to go on other than an image found that I believe is Aeolis, Looking grand with her brown sprayhood, with similar colour treadsteps on her decks. she was finished around 1980 but with a wooden top.
If anyone knows of where the pic was taken(see link above) and what year it would be interesting. I hope to restore her to a sound condition in time to put her back on the water by July this year, then carry out further improvements over time.
I hope in time she can join up with other twisters, In the meantime I hope I can gain assistance and indeed help others with similar tasks.
Best Wishes
Stephen
Welcome to the joys of Twisters. We have owned Sea Miste for over twenty years and really love the class. This forum is a wonderful resource if you are doing refit work as is the technical archive. As you will already have seen a number of members are very experienced and there are few jobs that someone hasn't tackled!
Good luck with the refit and enjoy sailing her later in the year.
Hello Stephen,
Welcome to the forum, I have found everyone is really helpful here, with someone having already completed any job that you have on your list and always happy to help. It gives me confidence that I am not completely crazy with all my jobs on Bob and makes the tricky things seem more manageable.
I followed my heart when I found her and sometimes wish that I had listened to my head a bit more, but it will all be worth it in the end.
The cockpit is looking good, we ended up only replacing the backs of the seats and some little bits of trim. I decided to used teak faced ply from Robbins, they are my go to place for wood and so far have been really helpful. We should have made a template out of some cheap MDF before going ahead with the final fit, it would have made the job a lot easier. I can't post pictures here but if you want to I can send you some to show you what we have done.
We try to do most of the work ourselves partly because I enjoy it, and we have a limited budget to get her afloat. It is a labour of love, but then what old boat isn't!
Good luck.
Best wishes,
Katie
Hi All,
Thank you for the replys, much appreciated. Im sure from detailed analysis of the images that the Twister with the wooden cockpit and with brown sprayhood is indeed Aeolis, (the only evidence of a once fine boat) From going through the Twister newsletters it seams Aeolis was infact built in 1980 but with a wooden top. This ties in with a later mast,
Katie, id appreciate any pics you have of the work you carried out in the cockpit, whilst I don't have a cockpit floor at present, the rest is not too bad,
Thank you
Stephen
