Hi,

I am so excited, Ive managed to save Helix from the crusher.  today the boat was to be crunched up.  She has a very sound top and despite looking the worse for wear she should be back to her former glory in a few weeks.  Anyone with a set of twister windows please let me know.  the sad news is that I cant finish AEOLIS. she needs more work than I can complete.  great sails and a lot of work done.  she needs a home. please help me find her a new home, she needs an engine, and a mast step.  she has a good mast and really will be a great boat.

Best Wishes.

Well that's great news Stephen. I had been planning to drive down to Boatbreakers and salvage a few things from Helix but I won't be too disappointed that I now won't be able to.

Hi John,

that was my intention, Her windows are missing and the winches have gone together with the electrical panel, but other than that her coachroof and decks are solid.  A nice newish Yanmar 2GM 15 as well. She also has the most solid chainplates.  Not sure what now to do with AEOLIS,  I think ill post some images on here to get some interest.

Thanks

Hi Stephen,

Well done for saving Helix. I saw an advert for Aeolis on Facebook, she looked like a lot of work, I hope you manage to find a good home for her.  I was looking into windows for Bob, but decided I could put up with what we have and found these guys http://hadlowmarine.com/ I spoke to them and they were really helpful maybe they could you with your new windows.

Good luck!

Hi Katie,

Ill call them about windows, thank you.  Aeolis, its a real shame as most of the hard work is done.  Lovely sails, I just cant commit enough time on her.  I want to get on the water and the dog loves sailing.

Helix is great.  I could do nothing but buy her.  her coachroof is solid.  inside is fine. a relatively new engine fitted properly.  substantial chain plates.  Unfortunately boatbreakers had started on her, so ive some repairs to wiring and a fuel tank to refit.  She was so close to being crunched up.

Thanks

Stephen

Well done Stephen - for information Wind Rose is for sale on a classifieds website in Aus, looking like there is still a bit to do. Hopefully someone can rescue her!

You say Helix has lost her winches. I have replaced Tammie Norie's original Gibb bottom action winches with self-tailers. Might you be interested in them? They are worn of course but were in use until I removed them last year.

Hi Scott,

Thank you, Good luck with your sale.  Hi John, Yes I might be.  The winches removed from Helix maybe put back when I collect her.  Boatbreakers have been very helpful.  How much would you like for them if I need them?.  I'm also after a switch panel as this was removed and sold.

I am going to reduce the price of Aeolis to get a quick sale hopefully, but if this does not work, ill move her from Dartmouth to home.  I could then finish her at my leisure and reduce the storage costs.  I had a Bukh dv 20 to install in her, but it is just to big and heavy.

You can have the winches for £50 for the pair excluding carriage.

Stephen. YOU HAVE MADE MY DAY - AND MORE. I am so pleased you are to rescue HELIX. She has a fantastic history from well before I owned her Initially being owned by Chris Atley, nephew of Clement Atley, The "Helix" trophy - still raced for today every year up the Thames - this is why she has the TALLEST mast of any Twister and fractional rig with a jumber rig at the top of her mast so she could tack fast. I owned her from 2004 to 2009 In which time I prepared her for the ocean hence the chain plates I designed and fitted. Sailed her down from Northumberland and successfully completed the Jester Azores Challenge, single handed to the Azores and back. through storms she behaved impeccably and looked after me like a mother would. I had to sell her for financial reasons in 2009, it broke my heart, but not as much as seeing her neglected. I sent a "massive" file of history and works done to her to the person who bought her from me - I will send his contact details - Im sure he would send them to you. My son who is in the RN visited her a few weeks ago and sent me photos from the boat yard. He also secured the Dodgers from the boatyard and presented them to me on Fathers day - there was tears. I would of rescued her had I not bought another fantastic Twister called "Tourbillon". Please contact me if you need any info.  I thought she was very salvageable and mainly rotten old wood in the cockpit. Pleased to bits my friend pointed this out to me. She is a thoroughbred and deserves to be sailing. I have loads of photos too. Also see you tube of her , 35 videos "Baby steps to the ocean 1 to 35" Thank you so much, Having a drink for you now.

Hi Malcome,

Helix is at her new home now.  She was towed back by a very helpful Twister owner on Friday.(Thanks Peter for the help and hospitality much appreciated ) .  Really she is in good order. Some work in the cockpit, The external coachroof despite being left untreated is sound.    All in all she will be a very lovely boat that will, I'm sure serve me well for the future.

Hi Malcome,

thought id add a pic of Helix in her new home.  she has some windows now and she is looking a bit better.  ive still not managed to find the mainsail.  if you know who you sold her too, I might be able to trace the final owner to buy the mainsail from him.  ive got a standard twister mainsail on her at present and its looks a little short.

Hi Stephen,

Cheers, Little yacht with a big heart. Yep a standard sail will be a little short. The main I used has a heavy duty burgundy colour, I added a 4th reef position as the thing was still too big with 3 reefs in it. (as Trevour Leek informed me (Jester Skipper) in the Azores ).

I sold Helix to Mark Piekos. at the time (2009) his tel No. was +971 501049876.  E mail  mark@piekos.net  apparently he told the "yard" people that he felt very bad about the state Helix was allowed to get into.

He was always very pleasant and I heard that he developed very bad back problems and couldn't sail or look after Helix.

I had a rake of new electrical nav. stuff on board at the time and a s/s frame that the SP2 Hastler wind vane attached to.

Please keep me informed Stephen, I still have photo's docs etc but a huge box file was sent to Mark with all of her "very" interesting History.

Kind regards

Hi Malcome,

Thanks for the info.  Mark got back to me and cant help regarding the main. so plan B. given you had to reef most of the time ill give what ive got a go.  ive also located a used sail with the same luff and foot measurements(loose footed) which might work well.

I'm on a budget, having spent a fair bit already.  she has new coamings now. some winches and starting to look nice and bright.  shes going out next week for a few days sailing.  really looking forward to it.

Thanks

Great stuff, Enjoy your sail out. She is easy to handle with the fractional rig, especially if you have a smaller sail. If she misbehave's , talk to her. Like all long keelers she enjoys having a bit of fun with you in reverse.

Best wishes

Malcome
