Hi, I'm sure this has been asked before, but I've done a forum search and not found anything.. I'll be painting my coachroof soon, any suggestion on what paint to use would be most helpful, I'm considering 2 part epoxy or polyurethane paint, I want a matt finish and something with high water resistance. Any suggestions please anyone?

Hi Again!,

I did Helix coachroof using Hempel Multicoat.  Its a Matt finish and not slippery at all.  Its lasted really well given I only applied one coat.  Two part epoxy paints might be more durable however I like to make things as simple as possible. Be interesting to here what others use.

Hi Stephen,

I went with jotamastic two part epoxy in the end, followed by hardtop HB. Should be waterproof and long lasting, time will tell,

Regards,

Justin

Justin,

Bet she looks smart now. Im sure with an epoxy treatment it will last a long time.  well worth protecting a good coachroof.  I should do Helix but I cant find any time. looking forward to the next instalment on youtube.

Hi Justin,

can you explain  what HB hardtop is please, and why you have used it.  Despite putting Helix up for sale (which has only made me plan to start afresh with her improvements)  I wonder what best to do to the coachroof.

Hi Stephen,

It's a two part polyurethane paint, the HB bit simply refers to the mat finish as opposed to gloss. Whilst I don't like to bandy the term ' waterproof' around, it is supposed to have very good water resistance. So I've used the jotamastic two part epoxy as the main waterproofing coating, it also has good filling and levelling properties. As it's epoxy it will deteriorate in the sun, so the purpose of the HB is only to protect the jotamastic, and give me the colour and finish that I want.

I didn't completely re sheath roquetta's coachroof in the end, there was no need. I repaired the fore end of the coachroof with fibreglass, then stripped All the fittings off and filled and faired, then painted it with jotamastic. I haven't done the HB yet, because I don't want to waste any and I need to get other areas ready for painting so that I can hit it all at once. I'm very happy with the paint, I laboured over the decision but it was the right thing to do. I can confirm after the last storm and with monsoon like rains, there are NO leaks anywhere. My new garage is coming along nicely, I'll post picks when it's installed, and a blockbuster movie of course 😉

Justin, Roquetta
