Hi,
From information Ive been given I believe Helix was built in 1967 and is of a standard construction. Ie similar to other Twisters of that era. Helix has a Hull number carved in to the beam that supports the mast step. Is there any means to reference this number to identify year and location of construction. Im sure some of you will have vast knowledge on this.
Going one step further is there any way to trace past ownership of Twisters, ie by using the sail numbers or other means at all. Given Twisters are in some instances over 50 years old now, Id love to find out more about their history and different methods of production.
Best Wishes
Stephen

I think you'll find that the number carved into the main beam is the registration number, allocated when Helix was registered as a 'British Ship'. The original registration would include such details as builder, engine type, and tonnage measurement. I'm sure that you can research that somewhere. Do note that 'tonnage' is nothing to do with displacement (weight). It's a measure of enclosed volume where 100 cubic feet equals 1 ton (That sort of 'Ton' originated from 'Tun' which was a large cask and it's quite incorrect to metricate it to 'tonne' as is seen occasionally).
The Association, namely the Hon. Secretary, holds a copy of Upham's build records and also Tyler's moulding records. Additionally, over the years we have accumulated quite a lot of information on Twisters built by the above and also those that were built elsewhere.
Hope this helps
John
