So I've replaced my cabin sole, a big learning curve. It turns out that gloss varnishing is something of an art. There is much to be critical of, but over all I'm happy with the result.

Hi Justin,

Nice Job done.  was that a veneer plywood and what varnish did you use ?.  Seams to have covered well.  Like the access panel you have created.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks! It wasn't a veneered ply, and that was deliberate mistake number 1 ;-). I examined it closely, and it's clearly high quality, but I've had to stain it to tone it down a bit (a lot). A lesson learned. The varnish was the last of three that I tried, it's very inexpensive 'no nonsense yacht varnish', screwfix, 7 quid I think. I was very sceptical, but it covers well, sets quite hard and is a good colour. I recon that with the practice I've had, the refit at the end of the year should produce a glass like finish. I didn't go to town with the finish, I just want to smarten her up a bit for the season, so I foam rollered one coat on top of a well prepared and stained surface, then tipped it off with a brush. Then I left it alone.

Regards,

Justin

Hi Justin,

Veneered ply is quite difficult to source locally, Robbins of Bristol can send it out they have a good website. ive been trying to source some locally without success.  the Finish looks to cover well, I might try what you have used.  ive been using Epiphanes forgive the spelling and its not easy to use.

Thanks Stephen I'll remember that, I'm sure I'll need another sheet before long and I'll give Robbins a call when the time comes

HI Justin,

Ive just watched your latest youtube films, very good.   How did you end up with Roquetta ?, she seams in good order.  I am hoping we can put together a Twister gathering of some sorts.  would be nice to see your Twister.

Best Wishes.

Thanks for the feedback Stephen, I always think twice about posting my shinanigans online. For as long as they are well received, or useful to someone I'll keep doing it. The story of how I came to own Roquetta is too long for this forum... You may have given me an idea.. I would definitely be interested in a twister gathering. A plan for a West Country mini cruise with the administration and my daughter between the 19th and 29th of July is coalescing as we speak actually. When might a gathering happen do you think? Is there a likely destination?

Regards,

Justin

Hi Justin,

Nothing is planned that I know of.    I think It is open to any suggestions from anyone as to a date and location.   I don't think anything has taken place for a while.  Peter Mulville might help with this.  In principle though its a jolly good idear.  I'm sure over the last couple of years quite a few Twisters have changed hands and new owners would love to show of their labours of love and equally meet like minded soles.

If we get some suggestions from members it would help identify a suitable location.

In that case, my suggestion would be Falmouth. Because its a lovely harbour and a decent sail within reach of anyone on the South Coast in a reasonable length of time. This should probably be a new thread on the forum shouldn't it..

Hi Justin,

Yes that sounds a good location.  It would be a good idea to fit it in with the racing calendar as some owners go to the falmouth classics and there was a meet up at the cows classics last year.  Peter Mulville will help advise on suitable dates and indeed may post to members the meet up.
