Hi Allan
I've looked at this post a number of times and hoped for a more informed reply. My answers are:
It's not out of fashion for some dinghy classes - the Mirror Dinghy features in many photos I found on the web.
Probably, for those that want to go faster, the Code Zero or whatever you want to call it, is an easier solution. I remember we had a Starcut Spinnaker by Gowens that worked well not only downwind but with the wind still aft but well on the beam. This was very new at the time.
There's a matter of crew workload...having two sails to look after might cause certain complaints.
I have acquired a small spinnaker that I have not yet used...I'm much tempted to experiment next season. It will look pretty if I achieve it.

Hi Allan,
Peter answers it. I’m not a regatta sailmaker, but as the sport evolves, simpler solutions develop. Less lines to pull and efficiency are easier for the extra 1/3 knot or not are worth it. The Code-O for example. It sets up and rolls up on it’s own stay in a flash. When it went out beats me. Systems phase out as time goes by.
Cheers
Andrew
