Classic Channel Regatta 2009 - Advance Notice & Invitation

This is to let you know that the next Classic Channel Regatta will be held during the week of July 4 - 11th, 2009, and we have pleasure in attaching your invitation to take part.

The regatta will follow last year's successful formula and will sail from Dartmouth to Dinard and then to St Peter Port.

We are very pleased that Le Yacht Club de Dinard are our new, enthusiastic, partners in France. As you no doubt know, Dinard is on the west side of the river Rance, opposite St Malo, but as it has no berthing facilities, the boats will again berth in the old basin at St Malo and the prizegiving will be in Dinard. We visited Dinard recently for a meeting with the yacht club and found it to be a delightful place, so going to Dinard as well as St Malo will be an added bonus.

The sparkling new-look website for the 2009 regatta is up and running at the new address of: www.classic-channel-regatta.eu. where you will find full information (the old address of: www.crab.org.uk still gets you there as well). If you are interested in entering, do please pre-register via the website as soon as convenient; it doesn't commit you to anything, but it lets us keep you informed as plans develop. We have made the advance pre-registration process as easy as possible this time, so all we ask for at this stage is your name, boat name and type, and email address.

We hope you will want to take part and look forward to welcoming you to The Classic Channel Regatta in 2009.

With best wishes,

Bruce Thorogood
Chairman of the Organising Committee.

Helix Reaches Azores
Malcome Collins and Helix arrived safely in Terceira, Azores yesterday afternoon (25th June) "After an eventful voyage.....Lots of stories to tell!". Malcome did not take part in the Jester Challenge as he started a week late. We wish him a safe passage home.

Back Home from The Falklands
I received the following excerpt from Ida this afternoon.....

"And so, Cracklin' Rosie has reached Dartmouth (after battling through the worst storm TD has ever known) and there is only the last lap to Portsmouth to complete."

Congratulations Trevor and Cracklin' Rosie

Home at last! Charlotte, Jane and Norman arrived safely in Falmouth at 0415 this morning, Friday 20th June. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

Jester Azores Challenge
Twister Finishes 5th....

Tony Head in Triple Venture finished in 5th Place yesterday, 13th June.

Malcome Collins in Helix had a late start but, as far as known, is still in the race

Homeward from The Falklands
Trevor and Cracklin' Rosie made landfall in Horta, Azores on the 30th May after a 35 day 2770 mile passage. Reports are that the passage was a bit boring ad that Trevor was looking forward to a good night's sleep after having to wake to scan the horizon every 20 minutes! Next it will be Falmouth and then home to Southsea.

Pouncer Makes Landfall in Azores
Norman called tonight to report that Pouncer had arrived in Horta after a 23 day passage from the Carribean. Winds were mostly light resulting in all but 10 litres of their diesel being burned. Now they are due a well-earned rest before departing for for Falmouth around the 8th June

Pouncer ..... Homeward Bound
Today Pouncer was 497nm NE of Antigua and her log clocked 10,000 miles. I think congratulations are very much in order! She's bound for The Azores, hoping to arrive there during the first week of June, then onwards and homewards to Falmouth in late June.

More from Trevor and Cracklin' Rosie....

'I received this message from 'Samsara' yesterday.
According to my 'expert' this makes Cracklin' Rosie approximately 600 miles South West of Soa Vincente in the Cape Verde Islands.

You will have noticed my deliberate mistake of putting Fernando de Noronha NW of Recife in my last update? It was, of course, NE !
No doubt you will have forgiven me that 'slip of the finger' and found the departure point on your map anyway.

It was good to hear that all was well yesterday and that progress is being made.

I'll be in touch when I hear anything more.

Best Wishes, Ida'
