Holman Darthaven Trophy
Holman Darthaven Trophy
This fine Trophy has been awarded to Malcome Collins for the account of his passage to the Azores last Summer. John Goode, who judged the entries commented:
Malcome Collins, Helix and "The Jester Azores Challenge 2008"
Pathos, humour, determination and desire for a challenge are just some of the emotions that are woven into this extremely well crafted and presented entry. I'm sure all sailors who tread the fine line between maintaining family responsibilities whilst nurturing a dream for the personal nautical adventure of a lifetime will relate to Malcome's tale. If I were still editing Sailing Today I would have commissioned this article like a shot - using it as an inspiration for others and as a great recommendation for the magnificent Twister. A well deserved winner

Winter Magazine
Best Seasonal Wishes to everyone.
Rosemary is now back from 'Birding' in NZ and the Southern Ocean and is at work on the upcoming magazine. She hopes to have it in shape soon but a lot of material was late arriving hence there may be some delay.

Classic Channel Regatta
CLASSIC CHANNEL REGATTA NEWS - CHANGE OF PORT IN BRITTANY
This is to let you know that the regatta will now be going to PAIMPOL in Brittany instead of Dinard/St Malo.
Towards the end of October the Yacht Club de Dinard told us they would have to withdraw as hosts of the 2009 regatta due to their internal problems. As the St Malo Yacht Club's (the SNBSM) schedule was already full that week they were not able to take over.
Having looked at the alternatives, we went to Paimpol last week and are delighted to say that Paimpol is clearly an ideal port for the Classic Channel Regatta and the Mayor, Harbourmaster and President of the Cercle Nautique (their yacht club) are all very keen to welcome the regatta to Paimpol. Having had a very successful meeting at the Hotel de Ville, we are sure they will pull out all the stops to help us have a great time there.
We now feel that Paimpol is possibly the best port there is in Brittany for the Classic Channel Regatta. The harbour is right in the centre of this delightful old fishing port and has plenty of room for us - and the berthing will be free for the three nights we are there. Also there is a large Salle des Fetes right on the dockside where we can hold a prizegiving and supper/party. It's a welcoming and friendly place with a pretty old centre and a great ambiance and maritime atmosphere, thanks to its strong interest in traditional boats and history as a deep sea fishing port. So fair sets the wind (we hope!) for Paimpol!
We already have over 30 boats pre-registered for the 2009 regatta next July and we don't have unlimited capacity, so if you are interested in taking part and haven't yet pre-registered, do please take a few minutes to pre-register your interest on the regatta website at: www.classic-channel-regatta.eu. It doesn't commit you to anything and all we need at this stage is your name, boat name and email address.
With best wishes,
Bruce.
