My 40 amp "Vetus" alternator gave up the ghost on Friday. A very good auto electrician in Scarborough spent some time searching for a replacement or alternative without success.
Vetus are very expensive and the Vetus agent says they have a bottleneck in supplies to the UK because of the Calais problem and knock on effect.
Has anyone sourced an alternative at any time and if so where from.
all suggestions welcome
Hi Geoff,
Try these ..... startermotor-alternator.co.uk
I've left off the www as I'm being accused of spamming! Anyway friends recently bought a starter motor for their 2GM Yanmar at hugely less than dealer price. Their service was excellent too. If you go to the website you'll see that they list both Vetus and Mitsubishi (the base engine).
Good luck

Thanks for the response.
I had been in touch with them as they had a vetus (mitsubishi) alternator on their website but after phone calls and sending photos etc of my old one we jointly decided it was not a suitable replacement. Apparently theirs was a very old model.
I have bitten the bullet and am getting the alternator through the vetus agent by airfreight on the basis it is fit, plug in and go, so should be back on the water this weekend while we still have some decent weather.
I had been round the Scottish canals this summer so it was fortunate it packed up a few weeks later within a few miles of my home base.
best wishes
Geoff
