I have a Haslar SP2 windvane id rather like to use on Helix. However it seams a gear was lost prior to me acquiring her. the gear sits in a Tufnol block and both locks the windvane and can be rotated with a line to make adjustments to the steering. Would anyone know of an engineer to fabricate one of these, or indeed have a Haslar/part of they would like to sell.
Any advice appreciated.
If I remember it's a worm gear set.
I would think your best bet would be to replace with an off the shelf equivalent.
Quick google from my location came up with these chaps but there will be someone local to you.
Failing that have a look on youtube for a guy called This old Tony. His channel is brilliant and i would bet if you asked he would knock one up as an excuse for making a video about worm gears.
Sorry can't be more help but I guess genuine SP Spares are getting thin on the ground these days as i've seen a few other people asking similar questions.
that's a really good idea. not sure how you found the site. ill give them a call next week. im sure getting the right replacement gears it will then be just a matter of extending the horizontal shaft and adding a wheel that can take a line to ajust the steering.
Thank you for your help.
